Side-effects of Lemonade Diet

Lemonade diet is meant for those people who wish to detoxify their digestive system. It is also known as a Master Cleanser. The Lemonade diet is a dietary regime that is usually undertaken for 10 to 40 days. While the Lemonade diet is a good way to cleanse the stomach and digestive system, it is also an important way to burn excess fat. Therefore, this diet is also normally followed with an objective of weight reduction. The only supply of energy when following the Lemonade diet regimen comes from the lemon juice. The prescribed diet is composed of freshly squeezed lemon mixed with non-fluoridated water, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. The biggest challenge that you have to face while going for a Lemonade diet is to do without any other food for a minimum of 10 days.

Therefore, people on medication for heart diseases and blood-pressure have to take care while undergoing a Lemonade diet. Consulting your doctor for altering the doses of normal medicines is recommended before you think of going on a Lemonade diet.

Besides this side-effect, you have to avoid food during the period of Lemonade diet which leads to lack of nutrition. When your body does not get the required level of nutrition, you are prone to experience certain health issues. However, these issues usually are not very significant. In order to ensure that the body receives the required amount of calories, dietitians recommend about six to twelve glasses of lemonade a day. Each glass is expected to give about 110 calories and twelve glasses of Lemonade juice will meet the expected level of 1200 calories that you need in a day. Water is also very essential during Lemonade diet regimen because it help in preventing dehydration. Drinking a glass of water in between every glass of Lemonade is expected to increase the fluid content in your body.

Some people who have opted for Lemonade diet for detoxification purpose have reported certain other side effects due to dehydration. Most common amongst these are blurring of vision, depression, feeling of nausea or vomiting, and headaches. Sometimes, these side-effects can be severe enough to compel the dieter to stop the regimen immediately. However, you should keep in mind that these side-effects are likely to occur since they are actually symptoms of detoxification, not of the diet itself.  Another side effect of Lemonade diet is that it is likely to have an impact on the intestinal system. Since lemon contains Vitamin C, the intestine is prone to get affected due to excess intake of acid. Hence, if you wish to follow the Lemonade diet program regularly, it is advisable that you have a break of three to six months between the diet regimens.
